The Farsides: Marvelous Music & Creative Cuisine

My latest adventure was a trip with a few friends to The Farsides. The Farsides is a trendy spot in Old Montreal serving up an intriguing fusion of Thai and Hawaiian fare set against a 90’s Hip Pop inspired decor, which you get to enjoy while listening to your favourite hip hop club anthems!

I’ll first address what some of you may already be thinking: Is my life so boring that going to a restaurant now counts as an adventure? The short answer is….YES cuz I’m all about that disciplined life y’all, early to bed, early to rise. The long answer is, when you’re usually in bed by 10pm arriving at a PLACE at 10pm now qualifies as an adventure. The adventure part is let’s see if I can make it through the night without having a total meltdown due to being up way past my bedtime….Yes I get cranky when tired or hungry which means that I’m officially getting old…..You know you’re getting old when some of the traits you had as an infant start to resurface.

Anyway, back to the dopest restaurant I’ve ever been to. Upon arrival I was happy to see the Montreal DJ Legend Kwite Sane spinning as soon as I walked in. I saw him and right away the song lyric that popped into my head was “…tonight’s gonna be a good night…” (sorry my brain couldn’t think of a lyric to a 90’s hip hop song that matched my feeling of the moment).

I arrived first as usual because all of my friends are delinquents who have no problem letting me wait forever all alone like some loner. Lucky for them I’m very adept at flying solo so it was no Biggie…but still…guys come on now lets try to be on time in 2020. I made the switch from running on “Island Time” to actually being on time for shit a long time ago, but I’m often left wondering WHATS THE POINT since everyone else I know is ALWAYS LATE!!! Anyway I rolled up to the bar and got me a G&T while I waited.

The first to arrive! My picture taking skills need WORK, we blurry AF!

Our reservation was for 10:00pm and I would say by 10:30pm my crew had all arrived but our table STILL wasn’t ready. If it wasn’t for the kick ass tunes and amazing wait staff and hostess I would have lost my shit and the adventure would have begun, but the music distracted me into remaining calm. It was also really fun to watch the chefs in the open kitchen singin’ and boppin’ to the popular hip hop jams while preparing their dishes.

Kitchen is to the left to the left, and the bar on the right. Even old people in walkers came out to hear dope beats!

About 45 minutes, a gin and tonic, a round of shots and some parmesan fries later we were finally being seated. We were led to a table upstairs that allowed for a little room to dance, and a great vantage point to look down over the balcony at the festivities below.

I think 4 out of 5 of us ordered the Big Poppa Pineapple Boat which was a feast for all of your senses (except maybe hearing). It was a work of art to look at, the exotic aroma made your mouth water, all the textures and expertly fusioned flavours created a mouth orgy extravaganza!

Big Poppa Pineapple Bowl (Fried shrimp, edible flowers, berries and chillies, rice and macaroni salad…sweet, sour, zesty, spicy…..BLISS

After all of the drinks, two orders of fries and the huge pineapple boat there was sadly no room for dessert, but that’s okay because I definitely plan to go back. I was back home by almost 2am from a dinner, but it was fun to get out of my comfort zone and live like the younguns for whom taking a dinner reservation at 10pm is no big deal, and when you go to a place as engaging as The Farsides it makes being tired AF the next day totally worth it. If you’re in Montreal check out The Farsides!
