Modern Ninja Training Step 4: The Inspiration

Now that I have: A purpose, a mission plan to actualize my purpose, and a code of conduct to guide my actions I can now put it all together into one concise document that I can reference as much as I want (preferably daily).

I know that this may seem like a lot of work, but it was well worth it, because time spent getting to know yourself and figuring out how to bring more meaning and enjoyment to your life will never be time wasted. This post, along with the previous three, were exercises in becoming more intentional when it comes to the direction of my life. Contrary to popular belief, life is not about “finding yourself” but about “creating yourself.”

These exercises are meant to ensure you are making time to grow in an area that interests you. Personal growth feels great, gives you a sense of fulfillment and is one of the pillars of mental and emotional health, yet so many of us don’t make it a priority in our lives.

The amalgamation of your core values, your mission and your vision statement into one document is called a Personal Development Plan and will serve as your inspiration as well as a daily reminder of where you’re going. When you feel down you just have to read your Personal Development Plan to remind you of WHY you started on this path in the first place. All great structures start with a detailed blueprint, all successful companies have a business plan, so why wouldn’t we have a plan for our most valuable project (our own lives)?

If you can fit your Personal Development Plan onto one page all the better, because the simple things are often the best things. If you come up with a 3 page document as your plan it will be all too easy to feel overwhelmed rather than inspired when you see your Plan, and may cause you to quit. Start small, feel and acknowledge the pride and fulfillment of hitting your mini goals, and then your bigger goals. As you get better at setting up plans and following through on them then you can create more complex development plans, but for now we are going to KISS (keep it simple silly)!

Below is my Personal Development plan which I look at daily to renew my motivation as well as to ingrain the intentions of my life into my subconscious. For best results attach as many good emotions to your vision for your future as possible, try to feel those emotions whenever you read or think about your plan and your goals. Always imagine yourself having already achieved your goals.

Having a development plan makes me feel like I have control over my life and it feels really good! If you need help in putting everything together into your own custom development plan then feel free to reach out to me.
